The directory name for project used in SVN can be lexicographical due to the directory tree nature. Eclipse workspace differs by being flat and project directory directly derived from SVN folder name may lead to name duplication clashes or otherwise be too generic (core instead of myproject-core). Certain tools like maven point to project using workspace directory structure and stop working when ckecking out if SVN directory and intended workspace directory name differ.
Subclipse derives the project directory name proposal when ckecking out from .project file.

Thank you for feedback. You raised pretty important question and we should improve Subversive in name discovery area. We already implemented deriving project directory name from .project file. This feature will be a part of version 1.0.0 M11, which will be released at the end of this week.
