Enter key in Livedoc workitems

Postby r.phil » Mon May 25, 2020 7:20 am

Hi!

When editing a workitem in a livedoc, pressing the enter key creates a new workitem instead of a new line inside the workitem.

I would like to just get a new line when hitting the enter key.

Does anybody know, if it is possible to get this "wordlike" behaviour?

Hello,

you can change the behavior of pressing enter in live docs.
Just follow the polarion documentation to open the keyboard shortcuts reference (open it from a live doc).
In this keyboard shortcut reference you can switch the behavior for enter from create new work item to new line.

kind regards, Stefan

What i often do:

When pressing two times the "enter" key in a row, a new line instead of a new work Item is created.

Right, Steffen, but then the new line is outside the work item

To get a new line in the work item without changing the key settings, you can use shift-enter. This is the same as in Word, where shift-enter is a simple new line, while enter is a paragraph end ("Absatzmarke").

But I also prefer to change the key setting, because thinking about shift-enter while writing is annoying.

Cheers

Thanks Stefan, this helps a lot!

Do you know a way, to set this behaviour as standard for all users?

... found out:
When you change the behaviour of the enter key to "Add New Line", Polarion creates a file "WIEnterBehaviour" in the respective user directory:
\\server\polarion\data\workspace\ui-data\

when copying this file to other user directories, this works for them, also (after Polarion restart).

I wonder why you should restart Polarion with that solution... Should it not be enough that a user does a re-login?

I would not do this change without asking the users. I know some users who really like the default behavior, because the mainly write things like high level requirements, which are often one liners, and this change would require them to adapt or change it back manually. It might be much more convenient to give all users a hint how to change it.

Also, for new users this will not work, if you do not find a way to automatically create that file on user creation.
