Dear All,
I am new to Polarion SVN Web Client, Our company is planning to use Polarion SVN Web Client and we need to do some developemt related to this SVN Web Client, Can you guide me which IDE you people are using for the development and can you please guide me, if i need to create project in jbuilder for eclipse starting work on this project, from where should i start?
Let me tell you I do have a good exp of working on Java/J2EE so I just need guideline for Development Envirnoment.

If i can have some Design docs for this application like Class diagrams or some other architecture related documents, those will help me alot.

I hope i will be able to contribute in the devlopment of Polarion SVN Web Client soon.

Hoping to hear from your side soon.

Kind Regards
Aamir Yaseen.

Dear Aamir,

Well, let me describe our development environment, which we think useful for anyone:

For application development we use following environment:
Eclipse platform (http://www.eclipse.org)
Sysdeo Tomcat plugin (http://www.sysdeo.com/eclipse/tomcatplugin)
As the result web application starts from eclipse, so you are able to set breakpoints in code, use debug, etc.

Information how to setup project for compilation is located here: http://forums.polarion.org/viewforum.php?f=6

Thank you for your willing to contribute the WebClient. Unfortunately we haven't formal documents, but if you will describe your task I can help you with some related code overview or tips.
Best regards,

hi,

ive set up my work environment using the following ibm tutorial
"Using Eclipse as a development environment with Jakarta Tomcat"

http://www-128.ibm.com/developerworks/library/os-ectom/

And with your info on the other thread, the source codes compiles without all the hackery i was doing beforehand.

Theres one last problem i got, which is the following.

Following the tutorial of the link above,
I started tomcat from eclipse, and tried to access the application at http://localhost:8080/gui , but the resource cant be found. Gui is the name of the project where i stashed the application.

On the other hand, i tried with the dummy example of the tutorial and it works just fine.

Any idea?

**EDIT: Never mind, i fixed my problem by recreating it with a cleaner project ***

Hello Aamir and vakyx,

Thanks to vakyx for posting useful link of Eclipse+Tomcat configuration. It's the same environment, which we use for development. I should say that Sysdeo Tomcat launcher is not excellent tool, because I faced situations, when Eclipse didn't show correct web application source code during debug. So you should be ready for recreation of workspace in worst case. But such troubles happen not often and workspace recreation requires not so much time.

I can suggest you to use environment, which we use.
- SVN 1.2.3
- Apache 2.0.54 (it's stable version, so I suggest it, because I faced problems with other version in 2.0 stream)
- JDK 1.4.2_04
- Eclipse 3.1.1
- Sysdeo plugin v 3.1

You can work with project sources by two ways. You are able to download source code builds. But you can also work with source code, located in our SVN. The project URL is http://svn.polarion.org/repos/community/SvnWebClient, so you can checkout latest source code directly from our SVN (use Subversive plugin for these purposes). Note that you have no write access to repository, but you are able to checkout code and synchronize with our further update. I prefer this way because in this case you will be able to create patches for your changes, so we can easy apply them to code in order to make them public.

Please don't hesitate to contact us if you need support.
Best regards,

Igor Vinnykov
