Permissions: a role that only sees a specific WorkItem Type

Postby woecki » Tue Mar 30, 2010 9:02 am

Hi,
I want to have a role that is able to view only a specific WorkItem Type, nothing else.

Q1) Modifying the permissions.xml i was able to restrict access to WorkItems (permit dashboard, wiki, builds, ...), but i was not able to figure out if and how it's possible to limit access to a specific Type. is this possible? how?

Q2) as said above i was able to limit access to WorkItems via web-interface. when i open "Repository Browser" i can still digg into e.g. wiki pages xml sources (even if i did the "sync svn access file"). how do i restrict access?

Dear woecki,

ad Q1) Limiting access to Work Items by type is not possible at the moment. In case you need to separate access to groups of work items, the most recommendable solution for now is to separate the restricted and non-restricted items to different projects.

ad Q2) The "sync svn access file" synchronizes only user groups (roles). In current version of Polarion (2010 and before) you still need to modify the svn access file manually if you want to restrict the direct access to the respective folders in the repository. If you do this using the predefined user groups, you may then take advantage of the Sync SVN Access File functionality when you add or remove users - actually you will not need to invoke this manually as the changes in user roles/groups are reflected automatically.

An example of the access file configuration would be:

Code: Select all

[/Path/To/The/Project]
@Project_ID-project_admin = rw
@Project_ID-project_developer = rw
@Project_ID-project_user = r

[/Path/To/The/Project/.polarion]
@Project_ID-project_admin = rw
@Project_ID-project_developer = r
@Project_ID-project_user = r

[/Path/To/The/Project/.polarion/tracker/workitems]
@Project_ID-project_admin = rw
@Project_ID-project_developer = rw
@Project_ID-project_user = rw

[/Path/To/The/Project/_wiki]
@Project_ID-project_admin = rw
@Project_ID-project_developer = rw
@Project_ID-project_user = r

[/Path/To/The/Project/documents]
@Project_ID-project_admin = rw
@Project_ID-project_developer = rw
@Project_ID-project_user = rw

Then you will be able to manage the access just by adding/removing users to/from the respective project roles.

New feature for automated synchronization of Polarion permissions to the actual repository access restrictions is being developed for the next major release.

Best regards,
Ondrej
