Some exports fail

Postby lefevre » Mon Jan 24, 2011 1:33 pm

On the 7 formats proposed to export requirements 3 work, 4 fail :
    csv, pdf, rtf are done.
    word live, word template, html, text are not correctly generated.

MsWord complains that the file is not correct, html gives a exception : could not compile stylesheet and text is empty.

Too bad :(

Please provide more details, what export on which data? Which templates you're using?

Best regards,
Nick

Hello,

please contact our support with detailed information about those problems.

E.g. Polarion doesn't include template "Word Template Outline", and if you use custom template, it needs to be checked.

What version of MS Word are you using to open the documents? May be it tries to interpret XML as binary document?

Sample-TXT export is exactly as expected! It's just a sample!

Code: Select all

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>

<xsl:stylesheet version="1.0" xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform"
   xmlns:p="http://polarion.com/xml-export"
>

<xsl:output method="text"/>

<xsl:key name="type" match="/p:workItems/p:workItem/p:fields/p:type" use="@id"/>

<xsl:strip-space elements="*"/>

<xsl:template match="/p:workItems">Statistics:
<xsl:for-each select="p:workItem/p:fields/p:type[generate-id(.)=generate-id(key('type',@id)[1])]"><xsl:text>
  </xsl:text>
  <xsl:variable name="type" select="@id"/>
  <xsl:value-of select="@name"/>:<xsl:text>   </xsl:text><xsl:value-of select="count(/p:workItems/p:workItem/p:fields[p:type/@id = $type])"/>
</xsl:for-each>
</xsl:template>

</xsl:stylesheet>

With HTML transformation - also has to be checked with support. Are you sure you're using original one?

Best regards,
Nick

The export menu proposes something like 12 different formats. Amongst them 2 are MsWord : Ms Word Live document and Ms Word template.
For each format there is a list of possible templates. For Ms Word template format there are 3 possible templates (??) : Word Template, Word Template Outline and Word Template Type Specific. All these options come with the standard installation.
My MsWord is Ms Office Professional Plus 2010
As far as this format is concerned I'm gonna try to dig deeper and get in touch directly with your support.

For the TXT : ok I got it :wink:

For HTML : sure : I didn't change anything.

Actually the only template I've sightly changed is the pdf one and export works fine for this format although results are not fully satisfying. (at this point the main problem is due to the lack of page break management)

For us it is crucial to deliver high quality documents to our customer-partner in the months and years to come. The export functionality is really important.

Thank you for your help 8)

I have experienced if I paste description or comments or other text fields from other applications (especially MSWord), occasional export problems arise. This I believe (but not sure) may be due to character encoding.
I resolved this by reducing the fields to export one by one and see which field creates problem.
Then check which WI creates problem.
Some times it is possible to pinpoint by checking the CSV export file for non ascii characters.

To fix, you need to delete all text in problem field and WI and re-enter the text.
This is how I fixed my problems.
I am not sure if this will solve your problems

^ i believe so too. if you can re-enter the characters manually, then you can simply see where the problems arise. so you can change it back again.
