301 HTTP Errors when building from source

Postby stefan.bates » Thu Dec 07, 2006 3:32 pm

Following a check-out from http://svn.polarion.org/repos/community ... rter/trunk I received lots of HTTP 301 errors.

To fix this create a 'project.properties' file inside the build directory containing:

maven.repo.remote=http://mirrors.ibiblio.org/pub/mirrors/maven,http://www.ibiblio.org/maven

Can this be added to SubVersion?

junit-3.8.1.jar 301 ERROR

Postby stefan.bates » Thu Dec 07, 2006 3:52 pm

Any ideas why I receive the following error when attempting a build:

Attempting to download junit-3.8.1.jar.
Error retrieving artifact from [http://www.ibiblio.org/maven/junit/jars/junit-3.
8.1.jar]: java.io.IOException: Unknown error downloading; status code was: 301
WARNING: Failed to download junit-3.8.1.jar.

The build cannot continue because of the following unsatisfied dependency:

junit-3.8.1.jar

Hi Stefan,

actually the settigns you added to the 'project.properties' are the defaults which don't have to be set explicitly (IMHO).

HTTP 301 is code for "Moved permanently", which should be automatically handled by the client (by going to the new location).

Seems like you are using some maven version, which is not able to haldle this HTTP 301 error (and simply go to the new suggested location). However, I don't know what's the reason for this, probably searching the maven forums would help.

I hope this helps,

Michal

Stefen, thanks for the project.properties tip. It got me past about 9 dependancy errors (I was getting the same 301s as you). Like you, however, I still have the one for junit-3.8.1.jar. Did you ever get it resolved?

I'm running Maven 1.0.2, as recommended on the build page. Running under windows.

Here's the relevant section of the log after running 'maven pack':
Attempting to download junit-3.8.1.jar.
Error retrieving artifact from [http://www.ibiblio.org/maven/junit/jars/junit-3.
8.1.jar]: java.io.IOException: Unknown error downloading; status code was: 301

I finally figured out that you can just download the jars & copy them into %HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH%\.maven\repository manually.

After junit is fixed, you'll get two more errors, but they can be resolved the same way.

commons-jelly-tags-antlr-20030211.143720.jar
antlr-2.7.2.jar

Apparently this all stems from someone restructuring ibiblio's layout when Maven 1 doesn't support redirects.
